MY POINT EXACTLY : Playoff formats dilute value of state titles

Before you let the headline send you into an angry, seething froth, let me explain. If you’re a coach, you probably disagree with it. If you’re a fan you might be teetering depending on your team’s playoff position around Week 9. But if you look at it objectively, the current playoff format for Arkansas’ larger classifications is as much a joke as it is serious. Arkansas groups its classifications into seven divisions. In football, Classes 2A, 3A and 4A have 48 teams apiece. Classes 6A and 7A, which combined once formed the former Class 5A, now features 16 teams each. Northwest Arkansas Times Read Story »
